Blip Culture – where is it going?

A question: Where do you think Blip Culture is going?
The year was 1985, and I vividly remember reading about Blip Culture. The term was used to describe Alvin Toffler’s “third wave” theory—the idea that the world was moving away from an being industrial society and accelerating into a diverse, knowledge-based society.
My professor used the quick success of the USA Today newspaper (founded 1982) as an example of Blip Culture. Traditional newspapers contained long, detail-rich stories, but USA Today had only short “blips” of information. Readers got the headlines along with a few paragraphs—and those “blips” of news resonated with readers.
Today, several decades later, we see Toffler’s vision playing out as predicted.
Sometimes eagerly, other times begrudgingly, I strive to keep up with Blip Culture. This blog was born of that effort. So is my Facebook page.
Most recently I’ve been persuaded to start Twittering. In terms of Blip Culture, I have to laugh. It’s hard to get any more “blip” than a limit of 140 characters for any one post. I have to wonder if Toffler is chuckling about Twitter, too.
So here are some questions for you: What are your thoughts on Blip Culture? Where do you think it’s going / what are the next trends?
