Cool things to do for your employees in May
Okay, it’s May, and here are some cool things to do with your employees this month:
May is Better Sleep Month (I really like this one). Cool thing to do—let each employee choose one day to sleep in and come in late –as in a few hours, not show up at 3:00 pm! Of course this can’t be the day that the federal inspectors are coming through.
This is also Egg Month, and here’s a great 45-minute activity I’ve done with lots of
teams. Depending on how many people you have, create teams of no more than six people. Give each team 25 sheets of paper, six paper clips and six drinking straws. Their job? Create a contraption that will catch an egg dropped from a height of six feet (you’ll also need a plastic sheet for this exercise!). Teams get 20 minutes to make their “egg catcher,” and the remaining time is spent having each team drop their egg – free fall – from six feet. The contraption that prevents the egg from cracking wins. Great for team building and creative thinking.

May is Mental Health Awareness month. Put up a special bulletin board and have people post pictures of their favorite vacations. Emphasize the need for work/life balance.
The second week in May is Teacher Appreciation Week. Teachers are some of the most vital yet underappreciated members of our community. Since each community is unique, ask your employees what they think could be done to honor local teachers.
May 6th through 12th is National Nurses Week. Time for CPR refresher training!
The third week in May this year is National Police Week. What a great week to review company policies and procedures – and be sure to bring several boxes of donuts to these meetings.
Finally, May is also National Asparagus month, and National Salsa month, and the fourth week of May is National Pickle week. Is there a recipe in there?? Perhaps I’ll just let you come up with something fun for this one.
