Dealing with a non-productive employee
Many of you know I write a syndicated column entitled Workplace Excellence. One of the media outlets that carries that column is Management-Issues.com, and every once in a while the folks who run that website also ask me to offer advice to people who write in asking for help.
Recently I was asked to respond to a woman who manages a small office — but has one member of her team that is EXTREMELY non-productive.
Maybe you can relate to having a co-worker like this. This employee:
- Takes personal phone calls on her mobile phone throughout the work day.
- Sends and receives text messages throughout the work day.
- Shares excessive details about her personal trials and tribulations throughout the work day.
- Isn’t meeting deadlines.
My response, which is titled “Where do I draw the line?” can be found here. Why not read it and let me know what you think?
