Employee retention - the easy (and smart) way
The hotel industry has notoriously high turnover. But in Canada, the Delta hotel chain breaks the mold. Their retention is phenomenally high, and there’s the very simple reason why:
They have a commitment to Learning and Development.
Delta offers more than two dozen learning workshops, and each employee gets an Individual Development Plan (IDP) designed to increase their skill, performance level, and career potential.
The company’s mentorship program is vibrant, and they believe strongly in giving relevant feedback to employees. In fact, their employees are guaranteed to have their development review within 30 days of their anniversary date, or they’ll receive a week’s pay.
A few months back I crunched some numbers in one of my weekly columns (Training Reduces Turnover - 11/2/06), and made what I consider to be a solid case for conducting training. Granted, I’m a little biased, so read for yourself and let me know if you disagree. I think it would be tough, though . . . especially with the example of Delta hotels in front of us. ![]()
