Lisa Haneberg a big hit in Boise
Last night my company, the Center for Workplace Excellence, hosted author, speaker, consultant, and fellow-blogger Lisa Haneberg as she presented on her latest book, Two Weeks to a Breakthrough. Boise was the second-to-last stop on her 10,000 mile “Year of the Breakthrough” book tour – which she is doing solo on her motorcycle, by the way.
“I’m really an introvert,” Lisa told us, “so I don’t mind doing those long stretches alone – like between Fargo, ND and Cheyenne, WY . . . where I was VERY alone.”
She told us both her and the bike were doing fine, although she said she was really looking forward to getting back home on Thursday.
Lisa spoke about some key points that lead to achieving breakthroughs.
Here they are:
1. Breakthroughs happen “out there”
Lisa talked about the 5/95 rule (as opposed to the 80/20 rule). Example? The butterfly effect—how researchers found that the tiniest, seemingly insignificant events – like a butterfly flapping its wings – can ripple-effect out and make a huge difference. The idea is to talk with lots of people “out there” and let them know about your goals.
2. Doing a little each day is better.
Making progress each day lightens the load and makes goal-achievement easier.
3. Do your “daily practice” every day.
The daily practice is “Share your goal, take action, make requests.”Everyone who participated in the beta testing of this program said this part was key.
4. If the first three don’t work, change your definition of success.
Two things here: Sometimes what we THINK we want is not what we really want. Also, the real path to our goal might not be the one we think it is! A shift in focus can open up new possibilities.
The food, the drinks, the atmosphere were all great, and the room was buzzing with scores of people networking. Big thanks once again to the sponsors of last night’s event, as their support made it possible — Idaho Business Forum, Invisus Direct, Dial 411, MenloPrk.com, and the Idaho Business Review.
And thanks again to Lisa for a great presentation. Get her book – it will refocus your thinking, and it will be a catalyst for you.

Dan,
Lisa’s presentation was a big success, and what a very special person she is. Thanks for taking the lead and making her presence here possible. We need more of this kind of thing here in town!
Congratulations on the great website, blog, and business concept. We need the Manager as Trainer in our organizations.
Michael
Thank you, Michael.
