More on being a manager - From Lisa Haneberg
Hey! It’s about time management development get a bit of the spotlight.
Just when ASTD publishes my article on Helping New Managers Learn to be Managers, the ASTD publishing arm is also releasing Lisa Haneberg’s new book, 10 Steps To Be A Successful Manager.
This book is literally hot of the press — so while no reviews are up yet on Amazon.com, Lisa has some up on her Management Craft blog, along with a special offer she has going for boss’s day.
No doubt Lisa’s advice will be helpful to just about any manager, but if giving this as a gift, I’d recommend professionalism and tact. Done wrong, such a gift could be like giving someone mouthwash. Ouch!! (Although it should be perfectly acceptable as a gift from a senior manager to a junior manager.)
Part of the reason I’m excited to see more written about being a better manager stems from an article I wrote back in June of 2003, What Happened to Management? In that piece I point out that we’ve been deluged with books about leadership, but hardly anything on management. So I’m glad to see people showing an interest in equipping people to be better managers.
Now … if the managers of the world would only absorb and apply this stuff!!
