People skills - a key to keeping your job
For those who think their technical skills will win them accolades and job security, think again. Leadership IQ surveyed over 5,000 hiring managers who hired more than 20,000 people over three years. The survey results were AMAZING (h/t to the AcheiveMax blog):
- Only 19% of new hires achieve unequivocal success
- 46 % will quit or be fired in less than 18 months
Why do new hires fail? The results were fairly clear: Poor interpersonal skills.
- 26% failed because they couldn’t accept feedback
- 23% failed because they were unable to manage emotions
- 17% failed because they lacked motivation to excel
- 15% failed because they had the wrong temperament for the job
Only 11% of new hires failed because they lacked the necessary technical skills.
