The people who made George didn’t learn from Susan B.
After buying stamps at the post office the other day, I was the lucky recipient of two one-dollar coins. The first was the older version, with Susan B. Anthony. The second was a beautifully uncirculated specimen of the new George Washington dollar coin.
If you’ll notice, the words at the top of this blog read “workplace excellence.” And I have to tell you that as I stood there comparing these two coins, I noticed they were the exact size. And then I remembered how badly the US public had rejected the Susan B. Anthony dollar. (Too much like a quarter!) They hadn’t learned!
I also noticed that Susan B. and George were looking at each other, and immediately saw the mild comedic value of having them side by side engaging in conversation.
So, when I got back to the office I whipped together this image below as a reminder of how excellence can go by the wayside when people don’t learn from past mistakes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I will enjoy collecting the new dollar coins. But as for their usability? I think Susan B. tells the story….
So — what would you have Susan and George saying about this issue?

How about this as a problem for a coin designer?
In the UK you could never make a Euro coin that anyone would like.
Strange isn’t it!
The Euro is a currency that is strong, and rising in value now of course.
The UK is part of the EU and could be using the Euro…
Not that such a thing could ever sway public opinion and allow the Great British Pound to disappear.
