The Wonderful World of WiFi … and the Future
You gotta love WiFi. As a person who spends a considerable amount of time on the road, I love the fact that WiFi is becoming so ubiquitous. Just three years ago I found I was paying considerable ‘hourly’ fees at Internet cafes. The mere fact Internet access was available was enough — many of us would gladly pay just to get on.
However, now you can attract people to a place of business (coffee shop, bookstore, etc) because Internet access is available for free. What’s more, the “free” part is pretty much expected.
And considering the cost/benefit of providing it for free, it only makes sense for a business to do so.
I guess what’s becoming even more common is Internet access via moble phone networks. During a trip to Michigan this weekend to celebrate a relative’s college graduation, my 60+ year old aunt whips out her laptop, her Verizon Internet card, and logs on right there in the front yard–miles away from any Internet cafe … miles away from a $9.95-per-day airport access fee … miles away from any hotel.
With technology progressing like this, my question for you is “What new technology that makes us go ‘WOW’ today will be standard operating proceedure in three years?”
In other words, it’s currently May of 2007. What technology will be everywhere in May of 2010 that we don’t see anywhere today?
