Wanted: More e-Books
[Aug 1st NOTE: With a hat tip to Richard after his Aug. 1 comment, please translate the term “e-Book” in this post to “Audiobook” — Thanks, Richard]
If your schedule is anything like mine, it’s getting tougher to squeeze in time for reading. And so, I’m increasingly buying e-Books and soaking in my ‘reading’ while walking the dog.
I like it because I get more time for ‘reading,’ and the dog likes it because we tend to go for longer walks.
But there’s a problem: It seems the number of websites offering business e-Books is relatively small. (With all due respect to fiction aficionados, I lean heavily in the non-fiction direction.)
I’ve done a bit of searching and have turned up a few sites, but with more and more people listening to e-Books rather than buying the tangible product, I thought it might be beneficial if visitors shared some websites where they’ve found a good selection of business e-Books.
The clarion call is out, and the ‘comment’ link is available — Where are some good places to browse for business e-Books? The more the merrier….

I might have mentioned it in a previous post, but one good source for e-books that I use is aheadSpace (http://www.aheadspace.com). This company provides quick and accurate 4-page summaries of the latest business books. A subscription to their service costs $99 / year.
If you are looking for audio books to listen to as MP3 files, then you might try sites such as www.audible.com, www.simplyaudiobooks.com and www.theaudiobookstore.com
The term eBooks seems to be used more often to refer to electronic text. For example, Powells bookstore in Portland (www.Powells.com) has a menu item at the top of their home page near the right specifically for eBooks. Audio books are elsewhere on their menu, along the left side of the home page.
Everyone has his own jargon. In a bookstore you ask for magazines, but in a library you ask for periodicals.
Thank you, Richard! Great points, you’re right, and I have NO CLUE why I was intermixing the two words. (other than it’s been over 100°F for almost the whole month of July?). No excuse; but I’ll consider myself taught.
I’ve been to audible and simplyaudiobooks, but I’ll check out theaudiobookstore.
And — if anyone else can suggest places to find a good selection of __AUDIO__ books, please let us know.
If you have an MP3 player, iPod or otherwise, you should definitely consider the vast array of business (and other non-fiction-type) podcasts.
Podcast Alley or iTunes are great places to find ones that suit you, and they both have user ratings so you can weed out the mediocre stuff to start with.
Also, the LYNX library consortium (of which the Boise Public Library is a member) has a pretty good selection of audiobooks on CD. Can’t beat the price, and you can have them sent to the location that’s most convenient for you.
