Why won’t leaders do what they know will work?
The new year has me thinking – why is it companies won’t do what they need to do, despite the fact that step-by-step instructions for doing what’s needed are strewn about everywhere, free for the taking?
Obviously, we have to consult the leadership of any organization to get this question asked, but that’s rarely an easy job. When confronted with these types of questions, I find that too many leaders are quick with pat answers and clichés.
It’s adult syndrome, over and over.
My latest pressing question in this area has to do with training. How can a company not develop and implement programs that coordinate all employee efforts toward achieving their strategic vision? Seeing the vision is one thing, but getting there is the real thing. What is holding leaders back from doing what they know will work?
I have my own theories on this, but I want to hear from others. What’s your take?
